Math is good for so many things, but is particularly good at solving problems. As long as you can keep a constant track of your work and follow steps, it’s all good.

What is the most important tool you have in your documentary education?

It depends on who you ask, but the most important tool in any documentary education is patience, consistency and dedication.

Who are your favorite filmmakers of all time?

John Waters is definitely my favorite filmmaker.

What is your favorite film and why?

I love all of my films. I really liked Being Michael Shermer; it’s kind of my favorite in terms of the subject matter, the visuals and the story-telling.

What’s your biggest career regret/hope?

My biggest career regret is that I was so young when I started filmmaking. I always used to say, I would have taken another year off, but then I realized the film world is such a demanding job and I’m never going to have that. I didn’t see any way out.

What are you doing now?

I’m a film editor (and a writer), editing other filmmakers’ work and working on short films and feature projects.

What projects are you working on right now?

I’m currently editing The Girl From Oz which is a short film directed by Kevin Smith. It’s a story about a woman who is trapped in a fantasy world which keeps her up at night, and I’m excited to work with Kevin.

Is there a documentary film that most influenced you as a filmmaker?

I saw my first documentary when I was 12 years old and was blown away by John Ford’s The Grapes of Wrath and the documentary I saw when I was 10 years old is The Great Dictator.

What are you working on next?

I’m working on a TV show called The Dictators. I’m a producer, writer, director and cinematographer.

Which documentary would best be shown at SXSW?

I would love to work with documentary filmmakers in the future to help build the documenation industry and the community and hopefully promote great documentaries.

If you could choose just one memory from your 20 years of filmmaking what would it be?
