In the book, the director of The Vagina Monologues says she would take 10 percent of her salary if she got the chance. She also suggested that if she wasn’t paid for her performance, her agent shouldn’t expect the same.

“I would be willing to do anything to be able to say no and it’s not that I dislike my work in the way that, say, people are saying,” she said at the time. “That’s not true. I am not a person who is bitter. I’ve made mistakes, but I’m not a bitter person and I’m not going to do it.”

It’s an interesting attitude. When a business can pay its star actors well enough to be able to do the work without an agency, you’re starting to see a decline in “attitudes toward agents.”

You’d think that a performance that makes the director happy would warrant payment for the full amount of the time. The problem is that not being paid for a work the directors say is not their own is kind of a big deal, whether the film being directed is made or not.

It can make a director wonder about their job security. Or, maybe they already have an agent with whom they are paid well enough for their work anyway — who is going to take their place?

MONTRÉAL — A Quebec judge says he is no longer able to provide bail to a suspect in a double murder-suicide following a request from investigators asking for an extended remand at the request of the public interest.

An adjournment in the case comes about eight weeks after a Montreal man was charged in the killing of a taxi driver and a woman after a dramatic three-day confrontation.

In a Tuesday court decision, Judge Paul Poirier says he has to grant an adjournment in order to give investigators the space they need to follow along with the victims’ grieving families and get the next step in the investigation right.

He also says he can’t guarantee the accused will not end up back in court, but he won’t make a judgment on his decision because he’s been “anxious” about not granting the defendant bail while the case proceeds.

The judge says he can’t make a judgment at this moment either in order to protect the safety or the interests of the public, which is entitled to know what is going on and what will happen in the case.
