The good news is that we now have the ability to shoot in four modes: 16-megapixels, 24,30 or 60fps, and we can even shoot 720p, 1080p or even 1080i video in these slow-motion and high frame rates.
Let’s get into all of the different options and see how they stack up in a number of aspects and aspects of video quality.
This is the camera that you will be most concerned with when it comes to video quality. Most people think of 16-megapixel cameras as having the highest definition video possible.
This is because they use the full 32mm lens, making it possible to capture extremely high contrast images when capturing stills.
This can also be achieved by using a high number of pixels (more specifically pixels with lower light transmission), which allows you to capture high quality video.
When it comes to the number of pixels in an 16MP image, we are looking at a resolution of 1280 x 960 pixels. This is about 2.2 million light-transmitting pixels.
This is a lower density than the majority of modern cameras which use a higher pixel density sensor (such as the Canon 5D Mark III and Samsung S6K3 which shoot at 30 and 60fps respectively).
However, the difference between the low resolution and high resolution of 16MP cameras is subtle.
It won’t make a significant difference to your video quality. In many cases it won’t even affect the quality of your file. The extra noise in the camera will be very small and doesn’t have any negative impact on picture quality. The image quality will be as good as the highest resolution camera with these pixels.
But don’t forget, a low number of pixels can allow you to shoot in low light (with some help from the flash), giving you a great looking nighttime scene. That is why that is your best choice whenever it comes to video quality!
24 Mpixels (with optional 12MP sensor)
This is my go-to camera when shooting low dynamic range footage. When it comes to low dynamic range, this is the camera that has my highest priority.
However I don’t use 24mp camera as the high dynamic range image quality is not good enough for the amount of shooting time I need. On the other face, I need a good low dynamic range camera for some video productions because it will allow me to save up to 25fps
