Are video editors in demand? – Filmmaking Udemy

“These people are a lot more in demand than they were 20 years ago, because of a more modern production industry,” he says. He cites digital services like Netflix, where a video editor is no longer necessary for the vast majority of programming projects. But it still requires a skilled hand to produce well, says Houser.

This isn’t to say that video editors in general aren’t in demand.

This isn’t to say that video editors in general aren’t in demand. And Houser admits those that are still employed are in a very small niche, particularly around the time of the Oscars nominations (the time when video editors have relatively low-end salaries). That said, he says the number of jobs out there is still growing, and there is reason to believe it will continue to increase as new technologies like cameras and film stocks become more accessible.

For example, the growing popularity of drones has brought an increased demand for aerial shot-production and editing services.

And perhaps more importantly, the industry may be shifting to a more collaborative, collaborative mode.

“The film and video industry has had a long history of working with a small pool of people, and people will need to get together with those who could help them make their final product better. This has always been the case, and it’s going to happen.”

It’s not likely Houser will be joining any large companies looking to hire video editors right away, but he does say that as production technology continues to evolve, more companies may be looking to video editors in their future.

“Right now the production industry is working with very similar people, and many companies may be looking at video editing. A large number of companies may see a need of a video editor with video editing, since their product is not as sophisticated as what we have today. This will be my future job,” he says.

So how will Houser fit into a global filmmaking system that relies so heavily on a few, highly paid, industry insiders?

“I plan to do the things I love doing [without being on a fixed salary]. I’ve spent a significant amount of time training myself to the highest of abilities for both film and video editing. With that, I will still be making my living as a film editor. And I have an idea of the tools I’ll be learning and will have access to to contribute to the growing number of companies looking for video editors. My ideal situation would be to work on
