MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) — One of the more intriguing developments in Tuesday’s All-Star Game will be the possibility of the game being played on a baseball diamond in a rural North Dakota town.

The idea of bringing MLB’s All-Star festivities to a small city in a remote corner of the United States has received some support, but the league said it has not made a decision that would likely bring the All-Star Game to South Florida.

“We are always open to it,” MLB Executive Vice President of Communications Paul DePodesta said Tuesday before the All-Star Game was officially named by Commissioner Bud Selig. “You never know what will happen in the future. It’s something we’re certainly discussing and could have.”

The proposed field at Great Lakes Park was a favorite of the Marlins but is far from finished, according to Dan Duquette, team vice president of communications. The field’s architect will be hired at the suggestion of the Marlins and has to be confirmed by September 16.

It would require more than 300 volunteers who are not only paid but also have to be in the area the entire time that the games are held.

The plan was first proposed by the Marlins, but the Tigers and Astros also voiced interest in playing the games there.
