Yes. That’s the way it is. But it’s a great way to learn how to make a living from it. If someone came up to me at 30 what would I say to him? I would say, ‘I’m a video editor.’ [Laughs.] You have to do your homework with editors, and it will pay off.
What do you want to be known for and where do you want to go in the next five years?
I want to be known for building the best video editing crew in the world, one whose goal is to produce the best video editing footage of any kind anywhere on the planet. The number one goal is to make the most beautiful video footage that you’ve ever seen.
That’s a tough goal for most people, and it’s a tough goal to have to accomplish every day. The number one goal of all the video editors I know—that I’m aware of—is to produce some of the best video footage in the world for our clients so that when you look at the footage, you see something that is different from anything you’ve ever seen before.
If you do that work, you’ll be well on your way to earning a living as a video editor someday.
When will you start a filmmaking career?
That’s a tough question. I have never seen myself as a filmmaker. I’ve been involved in video editing for 15 years at various places. I’ve been doing this a long time, and I like making stuff at night, in my garage, in my house, in my car, wherever you can get it.
I’ve always believed that if you’re passionate about it, make it fun. I do it because I like it, but I also love doing it. So I guess the answer is, never. This has never happened to me.
Do you have any hobbies or hobbies?
I don’t know if I have hobbies. I don’t really play much of anything! I get bored. I like hanging out, cooking a lot of food for my friends, and working on projects, and learning from people.
My favorite things to do, besides making videos about my life.
What projects are you working on?
This time next week I’m starting a new thing. I’m starting a new thing that I’m very passionate about: working with filmmakers. My passion is film, and the reason I love it is because a filmmaker brings something unique and new.
