The following recipes illustrate how to make a variety of freeze-dried meats. Some recipes also include other kinds of meats that may be used in addition to dog food. It is a good idea to make some homemade dog food recipes at home as an alternative if you cannot buy the bulk of dog food. If you use homemade meat, you can freeze any portion of the food within the recipe (and the freezer bag if you wish) and keep its freshness in a separate bag. You will not be able to use the meat again, and you will not be allowed to sell it in the future. A favorite recipe for homemade dog food is a turkey burger.

Turkey Burger Makes 4 servings

4 pounds ground turkey

1 package (3 ounces) cooked pasta and 1 cup boiling water

1 package (3 ounces) cooked pasta and 2 cups boiling water

1 lb. frozen mixed peas

2 TBSP peanut butter

1 can tomato sauce

1 pint cherry tomatoes, chopped

1 cup fresh spinach leaves (or 2 tablespoons chopped spinach)

1 can pumpkin puree (see pumpkin soups below)

Cook spaghetti and add other spices to taste. Place the frozen meat on a piece of cheesecloth and put in freezer. Freeze food is usually kept at -4°F (-20°C) to -15°F (-22°C) for long periods of time. The frozen meat should be very thick. You can cut meat into small pieces. If using homemade meat, follow the directions exactly as if you were boiling water. Place in a microwave safe bowl and cook in about 30-45 seconds.
