We’ve had some more time to process the fallout from the recent resignation of our President, but there is still so much to do. As part of our continuing efforts to support those who are grieving the loss of a loved one, we are organizing services in the coming week. We’re also preparing memorial services for those who have been affected by the shootings and those who have lost their lives. While these are not official efforts by the Church, they do represent an outpouring of love to those in mourning. We hope to extend such thoughts and prayers to you, your loved ones, and the families of those impacted by this senseless tragedy. It’s important to remember that if we have an understanding of what is happening in the world, it helps us give more power and attention to help those in need.
We’re also supporting the efforts of the National Organization for Women by hosting public forums during the week, as well as meeting with them directly to hear their opinions on issues they are facing. We are also encouraging people who are suffering to come forward by donating to their organizations.
As always, we are grateful for the love and support you have shown the Church over the last couple of years as we have fought for your civil rights, but most importantly for your faith. We ask that members continue to offer that same level of support.
Please join all of us in praying for those affected by this tragedy and in supporting the work of the women serving in the Church’s Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.

The Australian government is to stop issuing asylum seeker visas to Sri Lankan asylum seekers travelling to Australia, according to Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.
Australia’s Minister for Immigration Peter Dutton said the move was intended to prevent illegal immigrants seeking asylum.
Sri Lankan security agencies have warned migrants they will be caught and deported should they attempt to sneak to Australia.
Mr Dutton said it was the “most effective, secure and humane solution”.
“Sri Lanka makes a good first port of call … because we believe that this is the single most effective, secure and humane solution for those seeking to come to Australia,” he said.
