The answer depends on what you’re doing, and how you want to see the bar.
To visualize the number of words, start a calculator and start reading out bar length and bars per count.
The length of a bar gives an indication of the number of words. If you have a bar with 4 bars, it means there are 4 words per bar (assuming you have the language settings to display bars per count). If you have a bar with 4 bars per count and the languages options show 16 bars, it means there are 16 language tokens per bar. Using 2 bars per count would still result in a 4x number of words per bar.
Each word is represented in this way: “bar”, “sto”, and so forth. Here’s an illustration of the number of words in the English sentence “We walk and talk.” The words are highlighted in orange. If the language setting in the settings are set for a single language, only English words will be displayed. If you are using one language, the English words will be displayed regardless.
The numbers shown are the longest (and shortest) words in that language. For example, if you want to see the English word “hello” in English, the English words have their largest width of 8. The longest word in Spanish is “por favor,” while it’s not in French. The longest word in Hungarian is “hóg,” and the last in Icelandic is “tóv.” If you are using one language, the English words will be shown regardless.
The numbers shown are numbers to represent how many words there are in the spoken and written languages.
This is an important distinction as we use terms that are used in different regions of the world. We could have English speakers use the word “we,” in a different language, and people wouldn’t necessarily get how it relates to them. For example, if you use English, “we” may be used at home in the UK to refer to people from the UK.
The words are shown as a number of words. If you’re using English, you’ll note that there are two words for every 4 bars displayed. If you’re using English and your language settings show 32 bars, you’ll see a total of 32 characters in English, instead of 4. If you’re using English and language settings show 16 bars, you’ll see a total of 16 characters instead of 4. In this case, 32 is used for all four languages.
