When you produce a video for just a few dollars an episode, no matter how good or how expensive the video is, it doesn’t pay the bills like it would with much bigger budgeted movies.

That being said, when we started this podcast, the internet was mostly a place to find free music videos. We weren’t sure if we would ever be able to afford that kind of music production, but in our first few episodes on the site it really began to pay off. Not knowing much about video production, we made really goofy videos with no specific plan how to pay for them, and we didn’t think we can sustain this for more than a few episodes.

So what did we do?

We learned that music videos (as well as any other media) like podcasts, films, etc. can be incredibly profitable if you put your head down and do something unique that you wouldn’t do otherwise. You don’t have to spend a ton of money if you only have a few hours a week to dedicate to it. So we started doing what most podcasters do, something we really did not have any intention on doing, although we did have one specific goal in mind: producing really great videos.

We’ve grown tremendously in the last 3 years, we have a website dedicated to our shows, we have made videos with over a half-a-million views, and we have a weekly YouTube show dedicated to our shows. Our Patreon makes this possible.

How many people have you brought in?

Well, we started off as 3 people and now we have a dedicated staff of 17 people, all of which are dedicated to making sure that we deliver great content to our audience.

How about your listenership? How do you keep it fresh?

For sure everything will keep getting better. After a few years of only doing 2 episodes a week, we expanded our schedule. This also means more content that doesn’t get promoted too often, and we’ve also grown our audience.

Are you trying to be viral?

Well, no, it can’t be. The reason is that we don’t want to be promoting something that we really don’t give a shit about. And to say that we really don’t give a shit about something is really a disservice to so many great content producers that we would love to have as friends.
